The assignment was well written and the flow is logical. In regards to introductory paragraph, i feel that there is not much emphasis on the extend of how climate change can really affect us human. It would be better if some statistics are included such that it shows the urgency of this matter.
I personally like the portion where you extend the ability of floodplains from local scale up to international scale, this portion illustrated the benefits we are enjoying from floodplains in general.
The paragraph on finding new medicine from biodiversity is very clear and lists out how important biodiversity is to humans and the untapped potential that we can obtain from it, but i am clueless if you are listing Dimethyl Sulphide's ability to promote clouds that will cut down the sunlight and heat as a benefit for humans or as a negative effect on humans since you said this ability is important. I assume that it have a negative effect on human since you talk about Methylophaga degrading Dimethyl Sulphide and also, from my understanding, the ability to promote clouds to cut down the sunlight and heat is the same as Global Dimming, this ability actually mask the true extend of global warming and climate change. Thus, it would be better if you can explain alittle more about this or readers might mistake the ability to cut down sunglight and reflect heat back into space as a benefit for humans.
In general, i can see that you have put in hardwork and i have no problem understanding your ideas, just a small misconception towards the end of this article.

Regarding the part on Dimethyl Sulphide's ability to promote formation of clouds, it was meant to be a benefit for humans to adapt to climate change as it cuts down on the sunlight and reflects heat back into space to a certain extend. Later, scientists discovered that the formation of clouds causes Global Dimming, simply to say that the actual temperature of Earth in the atmosphere will be higher than the temperture on the ground.
ReplyDeleteIt is actually a debatable topic, whether it is good and bad. I would prefer to look at it at the good side. Given the amount of sunlight the clouds block off, there will be lesser people with skin cancer. Also, lower temperature on the ground means lesser forest fires, more rains and perhaps slower global warming. This helps to maintain a suitable habitat for living things. The only worry is when there is no cloud, there will be an great increase in the temperature on ground which will be dangerous.
For now, i would say that the clouds have more advantages than disadvantages.
