review on Eric's WA2

The article is clear and illustrates about the uncertainties of injecting sulphur particles into the stratosphere. Since no experiment has been conducted, the article compares the effect of injecting sulphur with volcano eruption. Furthermore, the article looks deeper into economic aspects that will arise from weather dependant industries. However, the article might have missed out on the importance of having a global agreement to refrain using this method to cool the Earth. The effect of SRM might worsen in poorer countries if richer countries start using it. There is not enough argument in the article, for instance, one could argue that SRM could be used in conjunction with reducing of carbon emission so as to lower the global temperature temporarily since reducing of carbon emission is a long term progress. The article could also weigh the pros and cons of SRM and argue that the cons have more effect on humans in the long run. These suggestions might help to increase the interest in readers.

summary for Climate of Compromise

Before the Copenhagen Summit, many countries have already pledge to reduce carbon emission by considerable amount with the European Union committing with 20% reduction below 1990 levels and would increase it to 30% with a global pact. Countries have shown that they have started to analyse their own emission and have developed ways to set the amount of emission to meet their commitments, but these actions are not enough to prevent the effects of global warming, countries need to reduce the global emissions far more in long term before it gets tougher when the progress is delayed.
Developing countries will be affected most by the effects of global warming and in order for the pact to be successful, developed countries should reduce a substantial amount of greenhouse gases while developing countries should start controlling the amount of greenhouse gases being produced.
While much money is needed to move the society into a low carbon future, many of the developed countries has yet committed fully its progress due to global recession, another problem is that developed countries have not done enough to help those developing countries financially. On top of that, developing countries will need an excess of US$100billion to cope with the effects of global warming annually.
In conclusion, as many countries have conditions prior to signing the treaty, more countries are needed to raise the chances of achieving a better result.

peer review on Alphonsus written assignment

The assignment was well written and the flow is logical. In regards to introductory paragraph, i feel that there is not much emphasis on the extend of how climate change can really affect us human. It would be better if some statistics are included such that it shows the urgency of this matter.
I personally like the portion where you extend the ability of floodplains from local scale up to international scale, this portion illustrated the benefits we are enjoying from floodplains in general.

The paragraph on finding new medicine from biodiversity is very clear and lists out how important biodiversity is to humans and the untapped potential that we can obtain from it, but i am clueless if you are listing Dimethyl Sulphide's ability to promote clouds that will cut down the sunlight and heat as a benefit for humans or as a negative effect on humans since you said this ability is important. I assume that it have a negative effect on human since you talk about Methylophaga degrading Dimethyl Sulphide and also, from my understanding, the ability to promote clouds to cut down the sunlight and heat is the same as Global Dimming, this ability actually mask the true extend of global warming and climate change. Thus, it would be better if you can explain alittle more about this or readers might mistake the ability to cut down sunglight and reflect heat back into space as a benefit for humans.

In general, i can see that you have put in hardwork and i have no problem understanding your ideas, just a small misconception towards the end of this article.

introduction

this blog is dedicated to course module eg1471
Just a little information about me, i am currently 23 years old this year, studying Mechanical Engineering in National University of Singapore (NUS). Previously, i was in Singapore Polytechnic studying Aeronautical Engineering and i have a passion of planes especially passenger planes.

My hobby is tennis and i play twice weekly at Yio Chu Kang Tennis center, my previous sport was basketball but was told to stop playing due to old injuries and therefore have not been playing competitive basketball since.

Thats all for my short entry on my introduction.
